Manchester United Eye Aleksandar Mitrovic as Striker Search Heats Up Amid Financial Crunch

Manchester United are reportedly in a three-way battle with West Ham United and Everton for the signing of Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic from Al-Hilal, according to transfer expert Ben Jacobs via talkSPORT.

After finishing a disappointing 15th in the 2024/25 Premier League season—just a year after an eighth-place finish—United’s downward spiral has continued under increasing financial pressure. Their absence from European competitions next season further restricts their spending power, forcing new manager Ruben Amorim to seek more economical options in the transfer market.

With Rasmus HĆøjlund struggling to make an impact last term and Liam Delap rejecting a move to Old Trafford in favour of Chelsea, Amorim and the board have turned their attention to Mitrovic. The Serbian forward, who left Fulham for Al-Hilal in 2023, has maintained his goal-scoring form in the Saudi Pro League and is now open to returning to England.

Mitrovic is reportedly valued at around Ā£40 million by Al-Hilal, who are looking to offload him to pave the way for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. Crucially, the 29-year-old striker is willing to take a pay cut to rejoin the Premier League—boosting United’s hopes of securing a deal.

However, the Red Devils are not alone in the chase. Both West Ham and Everton are keen to bolster their attacking options and see Mitrovic as a proven, physical presence up front. His track record in England—particularly during his time with Fulham—makes him an attractive prospect for clubs seeking immediate impact without the financial strain of high-profile signings.

United still consider Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyƶkeres their dream target, but the Swedish international may prove unattainable due to high costs and the lack of Champions League football at Old Trafford. Unless United can generate significant funds through player sales, a move for Mitrovic might be their most realistic shot at strengthening the attack this summer.

As United look to rebuild after one of their worst league finishes in modern history, fans will be watching closely to see if Mitrovic becomes the club’s new spearhead—or if the Red Devils are once again beaten to a target by their domestic rivals.
