The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to make significant roster moves to strengthen their team around LeBron James and Luka Doncic. They have a talented lineup but face salary cap constraints with $70 million tied up in expiring contracts and locked-in stars like James ($52.6 million) and Doncic ($46.0 million).

The Lakers might use their taxpayer mid-level exception to sign a center, with potential targets including Clint Capela or Kevon Looney. Capela would bring improved interior defense and rebounding, while Looney would provide depth and experience.

LeBron James is expected to opt into his $52.6 million player option or sign a two-year deal worth over $100 million. Dorian Finney-Smith is expected to decline his $15.4 million player option and sign a new deal worth $12-16 million per year.

The Lakers’ roster moves will be crucial in determining their chances of becoming serious title contenders in the Western Conference.
