Ruben Amorim Admits Embarrassment Over Manchester United’s Struggles

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has confessed he feels “embarrassed” by the team’s poor form since taking charge in November 2024.

Amorim has overseen 16 Premier League matches, losing half of them, with United languishing in 14th place with just 33 points from 27 games. Despite some supporters still backing him, the Portuguese coach acknowledged the difficulty of finding positives in the team’s performances.

“I feel that [people believe in me],” Amorim told TNT Sports. “At the same time, I’m embarrassed by that because if you look at our performance and see our team on the pitch, it’s really hard for me as a coach to take a lot of positives.”

He also admitted that his players are struggling with pressure, particularly at Old Trafford, where the weight of expectation is taking its toll.

“I think we are so nervous sometimes in the game, and you can feel it in the small things,” he said. “The way we move, our understanding of the game—especially at Old Trafford.

“Sometimes, before the match, in the dressing room, even during the warm-up, I can feel the air is heavy. When we concede or face difficult moments, the connection isn’t there—we lose ourselves. It’s more than football or tactics; it’s something in the players’ minds.”

With pressure mounting, Amorim faces an uphill battle to turn United’s season around.
