Arne Slot may receive a significant boost in the transfer market following reports that Darwin Núñez has given the green light to a potential move away from Anfi

Liverpool are already in the thick of their planning for next season and the future of striker Darwin Nunez looks very uncertain with the former Benfica man having failed to match expectations

Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez appears set to leave the club this summer after reportedly reaching an agreement to join Atlético Madrid. The Uruguayan striker, who arrived from Benfica nearly three years ago in a deal worth £85 million, has struggled to live up to expectations.

Although he scored 33 goals in his first two seasons, he has managed only seven this campaign and has started just 17 matches under new manager Arne Slot. According to Cadena SER, Atlético Madrid have already held discussions with the 25-year-old, who has expressed a strong desire to move to La Liga. While personal terms are said to be agreed, a transfer fee is yet to be negotiated with Liverpool.

Núñez still has over three years left on his current contract at Anfield. Meanwhile, Italian club Napoli are also monitoring his situation closely.

Slot Dismisses Rumors Behind Núñez’s Limited Game Time

There were earlier claims suggesting Darwin Núñez’s reduced playing time this season was linked to a clause in his contract that would require Liverpool to pay Benfica an additional fee. However, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has firmly denied those allegations.

When asked about the speculation, Slot responded: “Do you believe everything journalists write? Not always? Me neither. Sometimes it’s true, but often it’s best to be skeptical about reports concerning players.”

He continued, “That kind of thing—he would never, ever do. I don’t even know whether the clause exists because we’ve never discussed it. He never tries to influence team selections. It could be true, but just because a journalist says it, we have to take it with a grain of salt.”

As Liverpool prepare for their final match of the season against Crystal Palace—where they will also celebrate lifting the Premier League trophy—Núñez will be hoping to feature once more.
