Israeli strikes on Iran!!

Share

The conflict between Israel and Iran continues to escalate, with both countries exchanging fire and raising concerns about a potential wider war. Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and military infrastructure have marked a significant escalation in the conflict. Israel launched a weekslong air campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear program and regime leadership on June 12, aiming to “degrade, destroy, and remove the threat” of Iranian weaponization of its nuclear program.

The Israeli military claims to have destroyed between one-half and two-thirds of Iran’s missile launchers, significantly degrading Iran’s ability to conduct ballistic missile attacks. Iran has retaliated with multiple ballistic missile attacks targeting Israel, including a two-wave attack about 18 hours after the initial Israeli strikes. The IDF has intercepted several drones and missiles, but some damage has been reported, including a missile strike on a children’s center in southern Israel and damage to historic mosques in Haifa.

The conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with over 650 people killed in Iran, including 263 civilians and 164 military personnel, according to a US-based NGO. In Israel, at least 24 people have been killed and 592 injured in Iranian strikes. The international community is urging de-escalation, with UN Secretary-General António Guterres warning of a “trust gap” in talks and appealing for an end to the fighting.

Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with European powers emphasizing the need for ongoing discussions with Iran. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon,” while Russian President Vladimir Putin believes the conflict hasn’t led to a significant rise in oil prices. US President Donald Trump will decide within the next two weeks whether to get involved in the conflict, and has expressed skepticism about Europe’s role in resolving the crisis

The situation remains volatile, with both sides exchanging fire and rhetoric. Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz blamed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and has given the army instructions to achieve their goals in Iran at any cost. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as “grave war crimes” at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva
