The Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz have discussed a potential trade involving Rui Hachimura and John Collins, with talks ongoing since the Lakers’ season ended. Many within the Lakers organization believe Collins would be a great fit alongside Luka Doncic, providing frontcourt versatility that could thrive in LA’s system.
The Lakers want to reload, not rebuild, and this deal might be one of their best swings given their limited flexibility. Collins averaged 15.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game for the Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz last season.
Hachimura has often been the centerpiece in the Lakers’ trade discussions with the Jazz. If the Lakers include an expiring contract in the deal, the contracts would match up almost perfectly, allowing the Lakers to avoid a hard cap at the first apron.
The potential acquisition of Collins would provide the Lakers with a player who offers floor spacing, rebounding, and athleticism. Collins has a player option worth $26.5 million next season.
