Liverpool’s Title Hangover Continues as Brighton Stuns Reds with Late Fightback

Share

  • In a dramatic Premier League clash on Monday, Brighton handed Liverpool a 3-2 defeat at the Amex Stadium, leaving the champions without a win since securing the title. Despite taking the lead twice, Liverpool’s defense crumbled late, allowing Brighton to stage a stunning comeback.

The match started with a bang as Liverpool took an early lead in the 9th minute. Conor Bradley set up Harvey Elliott for a close-range finish, marking Liverpool’s first-ever goal in every away game in a season. Brighton quickly responded with a fine equalizer from Yasin Ayari in the 32nd minute. Dominik Szoboszlai regained the advantage for Liverpool just before halftime with a swerving strike that caught Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen off guard.

In the second half, Mohamed Salah missed a glaring opportunity, flicking Cody Gakpo’s cross wide from just five yards, a miss that would prove costly. Brighton leveled the score in the 69th minute when Kaoru Mitoma hammered in a rebound from a Danny Welbeck shot. Then, with just five minutes remaining, Jack Hinshelwood completed the late turnaround, scoring with his first touch after coming off the bench.

The defeat was Liverpool’s third in a row, following losses to Brighton and Chelsea, and a draw with Arsenal, leaving them without a win since their title-clinching victory over Tottenham in late April. Despite the slump, Liverpool fans can look forward to lifting the Premier League trophy in Sunday’s season finale against Crystal Palace, followed by a celebratory open-top bus parade.
