“Race Across the World” contestant Sam Gardiner has passed away at the age of 24.

Tributes are pouring in after the passing of former Race Across The World contestant Sam Gardiner, who died at the age of 24.

Sam was involved in a solo car crash on the A34 near Manchester on Monday night, 26 May.He was taken to the hospital following the crash but sadly passed away from his injuries three days later.

In a statement, his parents, Jo – who appeared alongside him in the second season of the BBC reality series in 2020 – and Andrew, expressed their heartbreak: ā€œWe are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Sam in such a tragic accident.

ā€œSam was taken from us far too soon. While no words can truly express the light, joy, and energy he brought into our lives, we cherish the memories that made him so extraordinary.ā€

They added: ā€œSam was deeply loved by his family. As a son, brother, and nephew, he was devoted, humorous, and fiercely protective.ā€Reflecting on how Race Across The World ā€œopened his eyes to the wonder of adventure and travel,ā€ the statement continued: ā€œHe had a fearless spirit, always ready to follow wherever the journey took him, and he left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered along the way.

His absence leaves a profound emptiness in our hearts.ā€He found true joy in his work as a landscape gardener on Scotland’s west coast. His loss leaves an immense void in our lives. Though we will miss him deeply, we’ll carry his memory with smiles, cherished stories, and a love that will remain with us forever.

Sam and his mum Jo took part in the second season of Race Across The World, which followed contestants as they traveled from Mexico City to Ushuaia, Argentina.

The duo ultimately finished in fourth place, having been forced to withdraw during the second-to-last leg of the race after they ran out of money.
